Bosch marks groundbreaking for new manufacturing facility in Indonesia

  • New facility will form the cornerstone of Bosch’s next growth phase in Indonesia.

Bekasi – Bosch, a leading global supplier of technology and services, today held the groundbreaking ceremony for its new manufacturing facility in Deltamas Industrial Estate, Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, Indonesia. This facility, designed with a pioneering modular concept, will be the catalyst for Bosch’s next phase of growth in Indonesia. The event was attended by Setia Diarta, Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industries (ILMATE) at the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia; Ralf Beste, German Ambassador to Indonesia; Odo R.M. Manuhutu, Deputy for Connectivity Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Regional Development; and Ani Gustini, Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development at the Bekasi Regency Secretariat.

Built on an 82,000 sqm site, the new manufacturing facility will be developed in phases to significantly expand production activities in Indonesia. Initially, the new site will replace Bosch’s existing plant for automotive components and electronic devices in Cikarang. The first phase of development is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2027 with an initial investment of some 25 million euros. It will be significantly larger than the current plant – apart from the production lines for automotive components such as electronic control units (ECUs) and engine cooling fans (ECF), it will also produce building technology products. The facility will serve as a localization hub and will support the strengthening of Indonesia’s industrial ecosystem.

“Indonesia is an important player in Bosch’s global business strategy. Its robust mobility market and substantial consumer base are particularly attractive to us – along with its dynamic, tech-savvy workforce and resilient economy. Our goal is to accelerate growth in the country to help Bosch expand its global footprint and balance its regional portfolio,” said Vijay Ratnaparkhe, President of Bosch for Region Asia Pacific South (Southeast Asia and OCEANIA). “The new manufacturing facility supports our plans with a local-for-local production approach. It will help our businesses to become more agile in responding to changing customers’ demands and capture growth opportunities.”

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Setia Diarta, Director General of ILMATE, who represented the Minister of Industry, expressed his appreciation for Bosch’s strategic investment. “The construction of this plant reflects foreign investors’ confidence in Indonesia’s potential as a manufacturing hub. We hope that Bosch will continue to serve as a strategic partner in strengthening national industry and supporting a more sustainable and competitive economic transformation, thereby increasing the domestic content level in the LCEV program with a focus on technologically advanced components for motor vehicles,” he stated.

Bosch’s investment momentum aligns with the strong performance of Indonesia’s manufacturing sector. In the third quarter of 2025, the non-oil and gas processing industry grew by 5.54% year-on-year, surpassing the national economic growth rate of 5.04%. The sector contributed 17.39% to the national GDP and employed 20.31 million workers. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s manufacturing exports from January to September 2025 reached USD 60.25 billion, accounting for 81% of total national exports.

Modular factory concept – first in Bosch and supports cross-sector growth

The new facility will become Bosch’s first manufacturing plant to adopt a modular concept. This approach enables various business units from different Bosch sectors—with their diverse production processes and technologies—to operate simultaneously within a single location.

This facility not only represents an expansion of capacity but also a transformation in the way we operate in Indonesia. Our business units will be able to easily and rapidly build and scale their production lines in accordance with customer demand. We are confident that this factory will create opportunities and drive growth across all Bosch business sectors,” said Pirmin Riegger, Managing Director of Bosch Indonesia.

Pirmin added, “All plant operations will be managed by local talent. As the facility reaches full development, Bosch will invest in building technical competencies for local talent in manufacturing technology as part of our commitment to strengthening national capabilities.”

The new manufacturing facility reaffirms Bosch’s long-term commitment to enhancing local capabilities, transferring leading technologies, and delivering sustainable and relevant solutions for Indonesia. Once completed, the facility will also offer rental options to external partners, ensuring efficient use of resources in line with local needs.

The German Ambassador to Indonesia, Ralf Beste, emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Germany as strategic partners. With a continuously growing economic potential and a dynamic young demographic, both countries have significant opportunities to support sustainable economic growth. In addition, the utilization of the comprehensive economic partnership agreement between Indonesia and the European Union (EU) provides broader market access and strengthens supply chain integration, thereby driving investment and innovation in the industrial sectors of both nations.
